The Deputy President of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB), the state-owned enterprises (SOE) watchdog, Mohamed Firaz, has been dismissed from his position.
PCB Secretary General Ahmed Yameen spoke to 'Sun', confirming Firaz's dismissal last Thursday. He was sacked on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's orders, Yameen added.
Earlier, Parliament's State Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee began an investigation on Firaz, who is accused of campaigning for the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) on social media.
Both the President and the Deputy of PCB are legally prohibited from registering to, and actively participating in political parties, and political activities, respectively.
However, previous SOE Committee had highlighted Firaz's involvement in actively campaigning for the current ruling party earlier.
After his dismissal was announced, Firaz had extended well wishes to the board on social media noting he wished success to PCB's works in future.
He further thanked President Muizzu for his short-lived tenure under the current government as well.
Members of PCB are required to serve a five-year term on the board, while Firaz has been on the board for three years.
Appointment and dismissal of PCB members rest with the President.
