‘Majeedhee Dhanmaru’ takes concert-goers on delightful musical journey

Talented musicians produced by Majeedhiyya School – Maldives’ first public school – came together to put on a houseful show on Wednesday, taking concert-goers on a delightful musical journey of nostalgia and modern charm.

‘Majeedhee Dhanmaru’ was organized by Majeedhiyya School’s alumni as part of 1,000-day countdown celebrations to mark the school’s 100th anniversary.

Musician Shamoon Hameed told Sun that Majeedhiyya School’s Salahuddin Hall was packed on Wednesday night, as three bands showcased their talents. This included a band of the school’s alumni and two of the school’s present students.

“We received huge support… also from Majeedhiyaa’s musicians. Though some were unable to join us, many who could did,” he said.

Musicians who performed at the concert include Maizan Ali Manik, Panama Shafeeq, Shamoon Hameed, Ibrahim Amir, Fayaz Mansoor, Mohamed Suhail, Abdulla Shamal, Ahmed Anil, Ahmed Amir, Ahmed Sunil, Ahmed Athif (X-ray), Mabah, Ahmed Ibrahim (Ammaday), and more.

The musicians performed a mix of classic and modern songs.

Tickets for the concert were available for MVR 300, MVR 200 and MVR 150. According to Shamoon, MVR 300 and MVR 200 tickets completely sold out.

The concert generated a good revenue. According to Shamoon, the revenue will be used to fund Majeedhiyya School’s anniversary celebrations.

He also thanked everyone who helped with the concert.

Majeedhiyya School launched the 1,000-day countdown of its 100th anniversary on Tuesday. The school is also set to build a monument to celebrate its century-old existence.
