Maldives government held talks with the US Ambassador seeking help to facilitate wider access to e-commerce platforms for Maldivian entrepreneurs.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed met with the US Ambassador following his recent Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) talks.

He confirmed this via X on Tuesday, noting that the discussions focused on facilitating wider access to e-commerce platforms for Maldivian entrepreneurs as envisioned by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s manifesto.

Earlier on July 12, the governments of Maldives and the United States held the third meeting of the US-Maldives TIFA Council, which was led by Minister Saeed from the island nation and Assistant United States Trade Representative Brendan Lynch on behalf of US.

During the meeting, Maldives requested US support in the development of key areas that require aid, and committed to increase cooperation on worker rights, digital trade, and environmental sustainability to ensure enhanced bilateral trade.

Besides this, the countries focused on improved support for digital content creators, artists, and entrepreneurs to capitalize on global commercial platforms and payment system solutions.

Maldives had highlighted investment opportunities in the financial, maritime, real estate and tourism sectors as well.

Economic Minister traveled to the US to intensify productive engagement under the TIFA and strengthen bilateral economic ties.
