China poised to offer new cooperation opportunities to Maldives

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday has said the Asian ally is ready to offer new opportunities for cooperation to the Maldives and the world.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee made the remarks during a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer in Beijing.

China’s Foreign Minister, while highlighting the recently concluded third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, said the over 300 reform measures put forward the party was a clear indication of China’s readiness to expand its high level of opening up.

“I believe it will offer new opportunities for cooperation with all countries in the world, including the Maldives,” Wang said.

Wang also said Maldives and China, since the establishment of diplomatic ties 52 years ago, have always respected and support each other. He said the two allies have set example of equal treatment and win-win cooperation despite the size difference of the two nations.

“There are no problems between the two countries, only friendship and cooperation,” the Chinese Foreign Minister added.

Wang went on to add that China is willing to support Maldives in its economic and social development. He added China will extend assistance to the Maldives in enhancing its capacity for independent and sustainable development.

The minister further noted China’s keen interest on strengthening multilateral cooperation with the Maldives and jointly combat global challenges while promoting common interests.

During the meeting, Zameer congratulated on the successful conclusion of CPC’s third plenum. He thanked China’s assistance toward the economic and social development of Maldives over the years.

Minister Zameer reiterated that Maldives firmly abides by the One-China Principle and is willing to continue to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative and further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in economy, trade, tourism, culture and other fields.

The Maldives Foreign Minister, who arrived in China on July 20th will conclude his official visit on Wednesday.
