Commonwealth Special Envoy meets with President

The Commonwealth Secretary General’s Special Envoy to the Maldives, Sir Donald McKinnon has met with President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik today.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office, the president said that the government will be focusing most of its attention and efforts to ensure that this year’s presidential election is held in a free and fair manner.

President’s Office had said that, during their meeting, the President shared the country’s current political atmosphere with the Commonwealth Secretary General’s Special Envoy, and also touched on the current economic situation. The office also said that the president talked about the political amendments that are currently needed, along with the measures currently undertaken by the government to improve the country’s economic situation.

The President’s Office said that Sir Don McKinnon expressed assurance that the Commonwealth will extend all necessary support to guarantee that the presidential election is conducted free and fair, and that everything runs smoothly.
