Maldives’ President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, strongly condemns the attack on former US President Donald Trump.

Maldives’ President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Sunday, strongly condemned the attack on former United States (US) President Donald Trump.

Trump was wounded in a shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania that also reportedly killed a bystander and critically injured two spectators.

President Muizzu, via a post on X, said violence has no place in politics, adding he strongly condemns violence everywhere.

He also conveyed best wishes to Trump, his family, and the others injured in the shooting.

A statement by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crook from Pennsylvania. He was shot dead by Secret Service personnel during the shooting.

Trump, wearing a red "Make America Great Again" cap, had just started his speech at the rally when multiple shots rang out.

He is then seen grimacing and clutching his ear, with blood visible on his ear and cheek, before ducking to the floor as Secret Service agents swarmed onto the podium, surrounding him and escorting him roughly off the stage to a nearby vehicle.

Crook was identified as the shooter following DNA and biometric tests as he had no proof of identification on him at the time of the incident. According to a voter registry cited by the Associated Press, Crook was registered to Trump's Republican Party.
