Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has participated in the Investment Roundtable organized by the US Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.

The US-Maldives Business Roundtable was initiated to discuss avenues of enhancing business and investment opportunities between the two countries. The meeting was attended by representatives of the US corporate sector, the ministry reported.

Minister Saeed is currently touring the US on an official trip where he is expected to meet with trade representatives, members of the US Chamber of Commerce and other government agencies.

His meeting with the US Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday is part of the official visit to the States.

Minister Saeed said he will provide details about his meetings after returning to Maldives.

Earlier in late-June, Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer made an official state visit to the US as well, where he met with the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to discuss strengthening cooperative and bilateral ties between the Maldives and US.

While two Maldivian ministers have paid visits to the US on separate occasions, a US senator recently submitted a bill the country’s Senate seeking a total cut of American aid to the island nation.

The US senator’s decision rose not long after the Maldives government announced it will ban arrivals from Israeli passport holders.
