MDP opens applications for national council by-election to elect constituency leaders

Main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has opened applications for the party’s National Council by-election.

In a statement on Monday, MDP said it has opened applications for posts that remain vacant in the party’s National Council.

The by-election, as per the party, will be held on August 2nd.

With this by-election, the party seeks to elect presidents for 29 constituencies including Male’ City, Kulhudhuffushi City and Thinadhoo City.

Prospective applicants must meet the following requests:

Registered as a member of the party as of July 1st, 2024

Should not have violated the party’s articles of association within the past five years

Interested individuals have been instructed to submit their application form by 2:00pm on Sunday, July 7th.

The application form includes a declaration that states if elected, the individual will remain a member of MDP. If not, action will be taken against them.
