Dr DD says Azim never sought to divide MDP and insists he is not linked to MMPRC scandal

Former Fisheries Minister Dr Ibrahim Didi speaks at Adam Azim's mayoral primary rally for MDP on January 8, 2026.

Former Fisheries Minister Dr Ibrahim Didi (Dr DD) has said that Male Mayor Adam Azim should be elected as the MDP’s candidate for the upcoming mayoral election, claiming that Azim’s name does not appear on the MMPRC corruption list.

Speaking at a campaign event held for Azim, who is contesting the MDP primary for the Male mayoral seat, Dr Didi said Azim had never attempted to weaken or divide the party, in what appears to be a jab at MDP founder Mohamed Nasheed.

“He will never break us up. He will not encourage disruption either. And he is also an incomparably honest man,” Dr Didi said.

He reiterated that Azim is “a very honest person” and insisted that his name “will not be on the MMPRC scam list.”

Dr Didi also said Azim had personally intervened to expedite a delayed council audit by visiting the audit office.

“Our candidate, candidate number one, will not be found on the MMPRC’s list of major thefts. Not on it, for sure,” he said.

He added that Azim represents “an unprecedented example of integrity” and is the best choice for the mayorship.

The MDP primary is scheduled for Friday, January 16. The other contender is former Medhu Henveiru MP Ali Azim, who left the MDP and joined The Democrats ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
