Dh. Kudhuvadhoo fishermen have also launched a protest over unpaid dues for their catches.

A Kudahuvadhoo Council member told Sun that the council had received information that the island’s fishermen were preparing for a peaceful protest without delving into any further details.

Kudahuvadhoo fishermen, during their protest, demanded updates regarding the fish factory pledged for Dhaalu Atoll and demanded to facilitate the best rates for their catches.

They also demanded payment for unpaid dues.

Kudahuvadhoo fishermen’s protest comes after similar protests at Addu City and Male’ area over unpaid dues.

Fishermen in Addu City launched protests last Friday. The demonstrations intensified after fishers cut power Addu Fisheries Complex and interrupted its operations. However, power was resorted to the complex yesterday, following which operations have now resumed.

The government has said it disbursed payment for MVR 46 million out of the MVR 90 million in outstanding dues to fishermen ahead of Eid al-Adha holidays. The money was disbursed a day after the protest Male' area early in June.
