Russian tourist arrivals to the Maldives so far this year, has exceeded 100,000 according to the Ministry of Tourism.
As per the ministry's latest statistical update, tourist arrivals from the Russian market reached 100,677 as of June 22, 2024 - indicating a 10.3 percent share of the total arrivals.
Since February onwards, China has been dominating the top tourist arrival markets to the Maldives. Chinese arrivals as of the review date had reached 113,702 - which is 11.6 percent of the total tourist arrivals.
UK has been the third strongest market to the Maldives, with 91,032 arrivals from the market so far.
Maldives has attracted a year-to-date total of 981,070 tourists so far in 2024 - which is a 10.2 percent increment from the corresponding period last year, during which arrivals had reached 890,363.
With the current arrival total, Maldives is now less than 20,000 tourists short of reaching the one-million mark.
Meanwhile, tourist arrivals exclusively for the month of June reached 88,825 - indicating a 9.5 percent increment compared to the same period in June 2023.
India, which had been the top tourist market to the Maldives since 2020 to 2023 is currently ranked sixth with 61,052 arrivals so far.
Owing to significant decline in Indian arrivals, Maldives government has launched extra efforts to strengthen the relations between both countries in a bid to resuscitate the market.
