Authorities on Monday, have arrested eight locals from Thoddoo over suspected involvement in causing damage to the island's council premises.

The protests, an escalation from Thoddoo locals' frustration regarding the land use plan that allocated plots for farming, had intensified earlier in June. The council reported that the locals were unhappy with its decision.

Maldives Police Service shared they have arrested the suspects, subsequently launching investigation on the case.

During the June 05th protests, glass windows of the authority were shattered after the mob pelted rocks.

Police had also repeatedly advised the protesters against causing unrest after they threw rocks on the council building's roof.
