STELCO addresses over 6,000 customer complaints over utility bills

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) on Monday, said it has attended to more than 6,000 customer complaints regarding the surged utility bills issued for May 2024.

The utility provider earlier assured to respond to customer complaints within a maximum of 24 hours from the time of receipt of the complaint.

STELCO said, it had received 6,135 issues submitted via WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram as well as through Facebook and its official website in the past two days.

Additionally, STELCO said it received another 659 direct complaint calls, all of which, it added have been addressed.

STELCO earlier opened the complaint window following widespread public criticism over the significantly inflated utility bills for May.

In response to public calls demanding an explanation for the surged bills, STELCO had previously said the bills are reflective of the extensive electricity consumption by customers.
