Certificates have been presented to 116 women completed the Beginners’ Electrician Course for Women, conducted by the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).
The certificates were presented to graduates during a certificate awarding ceremony held on Monday which was attended by First Lady Sajidha Ahmed as the guest of honor.
A total of 116 women completed the course over seven batches. At the ceremony, 81 participants received certificates, with the First Lady presenting certificates to 30 of the graduates.
The primary objective of this course, designed specifically for women, is to enable them to resolve domestic electrical issues independently.
Speaking during the ceremony, First Lady Sajidha, referencing the objective of the course, said women shoulder significant responsibilities not only in social and professional settings but also within the home, and that equipping them with technical expertise can bring about substantial positive change.
Although a basic course, the First Lady stressed that household work can inspire children, and initiatives like this help advance society while boosting women’s skills, confidence, and productivity. She added that work carried out by mothers at home allows children to mirror and observe their interests, fostering skills that can shape their future professional development.
She also highlighted the value of having fundamental knowledge in any service sector, noting that participants were trained in the safe and efficient use of electricity at home, along with energy conservation techniques.
Monday’s ceremony was attended by STELCO’s Managing Director Ahmed Shamah Rasheed and other senior company officials.
