Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) Professor Dr. Hassan Al-Kurdi’s family has been safely repatriated to Maldives from Gaza on Thursday.

Kurdi, on March 31st, appealed for donations in order to fund his family’s safe passage out of battler-ridden Gaza. International Aid Campaign (IAC) arranged the funds on April 7th.

IAC, via a Facebook post on Thursday, announced the success of their efforts to escort Kurdi’s family from Gaza, adding the family had safely arrived in the Maldives earlier in the day.

“We are extremely honored that the family had been repatriated with assistance from Maldivian citizens,” they added.

IAC’s team offered a warm welcome to the family upon their arrival in the Maldives. They were accompanied by several IUM staff.

IAC, in their post, extended gratitude to Maldives Immigration, for quickly addressing the obstructions faced in repatriating the family to the Maldives.

“We are extremely grateful for the close ties maintained with us, in our efforts in the provision of humanitarian aid,” they said.

Kurdi is a professor teaching Arabic language at IUM. His family had been residing in Rafah when Israel amplified its attacks on Palestine following the multi-pronged attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on Israel in October of last year.

His wife is a primary grade teacher, and the couple has two daughters and two sons. Their eldest daughter is an anesthesia and intensive care student.
