Fuvahmulah City’s famous food truck, ‘Baaba Gaadiya’, has donated MVR 20,000 out of the MVR 400,000 earned at Maldives Expo 2025’s final night, on Saturday.
Baaba Gaadiya is a food truck based in Fuvahmulah City, one of the southernmost atolls of the Maldives, serving a variety of street food options. Since its launch, it has gained popularity across the country and is now considered a “must-visit” spot for those traveling to Fuvahmulah City.
To bring the food truck experience to a wider audience, Baaba Gaadiya took part in the Maldives Expo 2025. It quickly became one of the event’s most sought-after stalls, drawing long lines each day as visitors eagerly queued to enjoy its food offerings.
The most popular item on Baaba Gaadiya’s menu is its shawarma, with many people going to the Expo just for this.
Saturday night marked the final night of the Expo.
Baaba Gaadiya had earlier pledged that five percent of the revenue generated from Saturday night would be donated to Palestine.
Following up on the promise, the food truck livestreamed the donation via its Facebook on Saturday night.
In this regard, ‘Baaba Gaadiya’, which earned MVR 400,000 on Saturday night, donated MVR 20,000, accounting for five percent of the total, to International Aid Campaign, a Maldives-based non-governmental organization providing aid to Palestinians.
Speaking during to livestream, Baaba Gaadiya’s owner, Hassan Atheeq (Baaba), attributed the food truck’s success to the whole team involved in the business.
“We are working without sleeping, getting enough sleep, for the sake of our beloved citizens,” he added.
According to Atheeq, Baaba Gaadiya had sold over 11,000 shawarmas alone during the Expo.
Atheeq also announced that Baaba Gaadiya will be participating in next year’s Expo with a more spacious food truck which will increase their capacity to accommodate more customers.
