Maldives Metrological Service (Met Office) says strong southwest monsoon is predicted to persist across the Maldives over the next three days.

In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, Met Office said north and central regions are expected to see scattered rain, strong winds ranging from 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 45 to 55 miles per hour and rough seas with possible swell waves during high tides.

A yellow alert is in effect for the region from 14:30pm to 18:30pm on Tuesday.

Met Office has urged seafarers to exercise the highest caution and the public to take necessary measures to minimize the impact of strong winds and possible heavy rain.
