Maldives-produced habanero chili has run out from Male' markets.
Chili is among the most frequently used and in-demand commodities by locals.
Currently, chili is sold between MVR 380 and MVR 400 per kilogram in Male' markets, which was previously sold between MVR 250 and MVR 280.
A local chili vendor spoke with 'Sun' confirming locally produced chilis are now scarce across the market. The vendor further noted availability of foreign imported chili varieties however.
According to the vendor, chili from Male' markets have run out owing to lack of import from the atolls, while the ongoing stormy weather presented logistical difficulties as well.
Besides this, the vendor highlighted chilis were mostly imported to Male' City from Th. Kandoodhoo and L. Gan, and added the harvests of both the islands have damaged amid the recent storms.
