Roof rips off from Maradhoo-Feydhoo house in rain

The roof of a Maradhoo-Feydhoo house in Addu City has ripped off due to stormy weather and rain on Saturday.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) confirmed the house was titled "Tulip Maa", and added there were no injuries in the incident.

The authority further said the incident was reported around 11:59hrs on Saturday, following heavy rain and strong winds.

Officers of Hithadhoo Fire Station, under MNDF's Southern Area Command, were dispatched to the incident site to remove the ripped off roof from the road, and for assistance.

Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar spoke to 'Sun', confirming the assistance of both MNDF and Maldives Police Service in the incident. The authorities have also launched a probe into the issue as well.

While the incident was reported on Saturday noon, Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) earlier issued an orange alert, effective from 05:30hrs on Saturday, for both Addu and Fuvahmulah cities.

Weather conditions worsen generally during May, June, and July every year. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has instructed the public, especially seafarers, to practice caution these days.

Additionally, the authority urged public to bolster roofs if there is any suspicion they could rip off. Seafarers have been warned to take extra caution before trips, while NDMA cautioned farmers to protect their crops from heavy rain and wind.
