Bank of Maldives (BML) on Monday, has announced the introduction of Weixin Pay, also known as WeChat Pay in overseas markets, as a payment method on the bank's Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal network.
This introduction allows merchants to accept QR payments from the popular Chinese app. WeChat Pay was previously only available on the BML Payment Gateway.
Speaking about this payment option introduction, the bank's Director of Retail, Business and SME Banking Moosa Nimal said, "We have started the rollout of WeChat Pay at merchants at Velana International Airport's duty-free shopping."
"By accepting WeChat Pay on the bank's POS network, we are paving the way for more than 1 billion active users of the Weixin and WeChat platform to make payments at merchants across Maldives."
The bank is also the leading provider of merchant payment solutions in the Maldives, with a range of products and services to suit different business segments and customer preferences.
BML currently accepts payments of all major debit and credit cards including American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Union Pay, and digital wallets along with BML Pay, including Ali Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
Besides POS terminals, merchants can now accept payments online anywhere with the Bank's Merchant Portal and mPOS APP using the service to send payment requests, check transactions and manage online stores.
