UNICEF Maldives, on Friday, has called upon world leaders to take practical actions to end the hostilities and enable children access to essential services and protection.

In a statement on the occasion National Children’s Day, UNICEF Maldives drew attention to children around the world, particularly the children of Gaza, who are living in or fleeing conflict zones.

“Many of them have been displaced multiple times, risking separation from their families and losing critical years of education. This is crushing their lives and their futures,” the statement read.

It was underscored that since the onset of the Gaza crisis, the organization had repeatedly, called for a ceasefire and urged world leaders to take practical actions to end the hostilities and enable children access to essential services and protection.

“We will not give up. We are in awe of the courageous UN staff and partners who continue, against the odds, to deliver aid to those in desperate need across Gaza,” they added.

UNICIEF Maldives affirmed that they stand with all their colleagues serving tirelessly in Gaza, and other parts of the world, to safeguard the rights of all children.

With respect to the Maldives, the organization underscored the significant achievements the Maldives has made in supporting ever more children to survive, thrive, learn in school, and be better protected.

They affirmed their commitment to working with all partners to realize the rights of every child in the Maldives, including those living with disabilities and the most impoverished, and to address stubborn challenges in the areas of children’s health and education, as well as protecting them from physical harm, malnutrition and climate change.
