Not enough attention has been given to aviation security: President

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that not enough attention has been given to the issue of aviation security in the Maldives.

He made this remark while speaking at the function to inaugurate the Aviation Security Command, held today at the Islamic Centre.

He said that even though the Maldives has been involved in aviation services for a long period of time, not enough attention has been given to the development of this sector.

“Today, we have to devote special attention to air security, air space security, aviation security. Aviation security in the Maldives, until now, has not been given much attention,” he said.

Referring to the increase in the number of new airlines and private jets coming in to the country, the President said that priority must be given to aviation security and the safety of the personnel in this sector.

The President expressed confidence that with the establishment of the Aviation Security Command, the Maldives aviation industry would improve its aviation security to international standards. He said that the Aviation Security Command would also open new avenues to develop the aviation security industry of the Maldives.

He said that the Maldives faces several threats in aviation, which means that special attention must be devoted to the issue of aviation security in the country.

The President said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure aviation safety and security, and that aviation safety and security are linked to the social and economic development of the country. He said that from now on, the government will devote special attention to aviation and naval security.

He called on the Aviation Command to fully monitor aviation safety and security and to protect the people of the Maldives from aviation threats.
