Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem (Red Wave Saleem) has requested the police to probe the reason why the police had failed to investigate the storage of a ‘toxic chemical’ at a warehouse under Saleem’s care as part of an assassination plot against former President Mohamed Nasheed, as recently claimed by former Police Head of Intelligence Department Mohamed Hameed (MC Hameed).

Hameed told the committee which is currently investigating the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) that in 2011, there was a ‘plot’ to assassinate Nasheed using a toxic chemical stored in a warehouse under the care MPSaleem. Hameed however said that he cannot attest to the accuracy of the information regarding the toxic chemicals, but that he had discussed the issue with former President Nasheed’s body guards.

Saleem said in an interview to Sun Online in relation to this claim by Hameed, that the fact that the police did not investigate such a serious allegation of a plot against a president is questionable, and that he has requested the police to probe why this case was not investigated.

“I wasn’t questioned in any way; the police never came to our warehouse or checked anything. Why hasn’t this been investigated, when I’ve been accused of something so serious?” he said.

Saleem alleged that the purpose of Hameed’s claim was to achieve a particular purpose, and said that the MDP government tried to ‘destroy’ the political lives of several MPs in 2011 and that they tried to ‘entangle’ him in one of their traps.

“Most of the people who work at my warehouses support MDP. Only they would be the ones to see such a thing. It could also be that some people worked with MC Hameed and placed such items in one of my warehouses and attempted to destroy me. Several efforts were made at that time to destroy MPs,” he said.

Saleem said that a case will be filed to court to claim damages from three groups in relation to the accusations that he tried to assassinate a former president. He said the three groups would be MC Hameed who made the claims, MDP which made Hameed’s claims public, and Raajje TV which ensured that the claims reached the public.

He said that preparations are under way to file the case to court including the damages, and that a press statement will be released in this regard today.
