Hussain Humaam Ahmed of H. Lobby has denied the charges against him of deliberate murder, in relation to the murder of Ungoofaaru MP Dr. Afrasheem Ali.
Humaam said at the trial at Criminal Court today that the claim against him is clear and that he denies it. He requested for a lawyer before proceeding with the trial.
When asked by the judge how many days he needs in order to appoint a lawyer, Humaam said that he would have to discuss the matter with his family before he can give an answer.
The State Prosecutor said that the murder charge against Humaam is in relation to the murder using a sharp object by Humaam and a group, of Dr Afrasheem Ali on the night of 1 October 2012 between 11:30pm and 2:00am at Afrasheem’s residence H. Funvilu.
The Criminal Court judge gave Humaam the opportunity to appoint a lawyer and inform the court next week, before concluding today’s session.
Police said that investigations have revealed that Humaan killed Dr Afrasheem together with Ali Shaan of H. Hicoast, while a minor below the age of 18 stood guard outside Afrasheem’s residence. The Prosecutor General’s Office is currently investigating the cases against them.
