Ruling PNC secures all cities in major loss to MDP

Main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) secured all cities across the Maldives in Sunday’s parliamentary election; a major loss to the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which had dominated the cities in previous elections.

Preliminary results flowing in show that PNC secured the majority of the seats in Male’ City, Addu City and Fuvahmulah City.

In this regard, the seats secured by PNC are as follows;

  • North Hulhumale’ constituency
  • Central Hulhumale’ constituency
  • West Henveiru constituency
  • Vilimale’ constituency
  • South Maafannu constituency
  • Central Maafannu constituency
  • North Maafannu constituency (Maldives National Party, coalition partner)
  • North Mahchangolhi constituency
  • South Mahchangolhi constituency
  • North Henveiru constituency
  • South Henvieru constituency
  • Central Henvieru constituency

Meanwhile, MDP secured the following seats;

  • North Galolhu constituency
  • South Galolhu constituency
  • South Hulhumale’ constituency

All three constituencies in Fuvahmulah City were won by PNC. The ruling party also secured the majority of constituencies in Addu City.
