Abdullah Yamin has been appointed as the Parliamentary Group Leader of the Progressive Party of the Maldives during its ongoing congress.
Yamin, MP for Mulaku Constituency, was appointed without a vote to the position which he has filled until now as there are no contenders.
Yesterday, former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom, Yamin’s brother, was appointed to the position of Party Presidency without a vote as well, as no other contested for the position.
PPM’s first congress, which began yesterday, would continue until tomorrow. The congress is being held at Darubaaruge, Malé.
Abdul Raheem Abdullah, who was beaten in the vote to elect a Deputy President of the Party, was appointed as the Deputy Leader of PPM Parliamentary Group Leader, without contest.
Official results of all the votes at the congress would be announced tonight.
