Two foreigners who were distributing copies of the bible in Dhivehi language at Hiyaa Flat area in Huhumale’ Phase II have been taken into police custody.
Photos of two foreign women went viral on social media earlier today, claiming they were distributing items that go against the Islamic religion. The photos show that the foreign women were distributing copies of the bible in Dhivehi language and business cards containing links to articles that go against the Islamic religion.
Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan, in a post on X, said both individuals have now been taken to Hulhumale’ Phase II Police Station.

In a message to the media, Police said two German women have been taken into custody for distribution of writings that violate the Religious Unity Act of the Maldives.
They detailed that the women had entered the Maldives on tourist visas.
Police said the case is under further investigation.
A viral post on social media claimed the two women were Americans. Photos show them near the mailbox area of a Hiyaa flat.
