The shipment containing 1,500 tonnes of bottled water donated by China’s Xizang Autonomous Region has arrived in the Maldives.

Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Tuesday, said the donation was pledged by the Chairman of the Xizang Autonomous Region Yan Jinhai during his official visit to the Maldives back in November.

While the shipment has now arrived in the Maldives, Foreign Ministry states the water will be used to provide as aid for islands in circumstances where they face water shortages.

The bottled water is sourced from the glaciers from the mountains in Xizang.
