The Democrats’ North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahumy has requested disclosure of the additional information acquired in the investigation of the 2021 assassination attempt on former president Mohamed Nasheed.

Speaking at Monday’s parliamentary sitting, Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon, citing there was additional information regarding Nasheed’s assassination attempt that needs to be disclosed to the parliament, said the information in question will be shared once requested by lawmakers.

In light of the Minister’s remarks, Imthiyaz, in a letter to Parliament Speaker Mohamed Aslam, requested to seek the information necessary for the case and submit it for review to the relevant committee.

Speaking at a press conference of The Democrats on late Monday afternoon – Imthiyaz said the party views the incident as an “extremely serious” case.

“I believe the depths of this case should be uncovered. Henceforth, we request the current administration to probe the case to the deepest extent and share the information mentioned by Defense Minister Ghassan with the parliament in addition to deciding what further steps the parliament can take on the matter,” he said.
