President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday, promised taking extra efforts to reduce food and beverage prices - which is a key priority of the current administration.
He made the statement in the "Raeesge Javaabu" (President's Response) series, where he answers questions presented by the public.
In Sunday's program, an individual requested to reduce prices of food and beverages in Ramadan, to which Dr. Muizzu responded with an affirmation.
"The government prioritizes reduces prices of food and beverage products. STO has already begun importing necessary items to reduce prices ahead of Ramadan, which is in effect already. However, extra efforts will be made to reduce prices of consumer goods," the president commented.
Dr. Muizzu said the mid-term and long-term plans for Maldives is to harvest all applicable food items locally to ensure food security, which would cut price of consumer items.
While this year's Ramadan is set to begin on Monday, STO has imported high-demand food items to reduce prices in the Maldives market.
