Beloved TV star, Shakirbe, dies aged 85

Ibrahim Shakir (Shakirbe), who gained popularity through his performances in TV series and movies throughout the 1990s and 2000s, has died at the age of 85.

He died at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ City at around 09:30 pm on Monday, after battling a long illness.

The funeral prayer will be performed at the mosque in the Hulhumale’ cemetery after the noon prayer on Tuesday.

Shakirbe worked for years at the state broadcasting channel Television Maldives (TVM), during which time he performed at various movies and series produced by the channel.

One of his most acclaimed performances was in the TVM series ‘Ka’thiri’.

Shakirbe had later relocated to India, but moved back home last year.
