Maldives Customs Service has received a female deputy commissioner – for the first time in its 133-year history.

Fathimath Dhiyana (Sandharu, Lh. Hinnavaru) was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Customs by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Thursday. She was presented with her letter of appointment by the Commissioner of Customs Yoosuf Maniu in a ceremony at the Customs Building on Sunday.

The Maldives Customs Service described the appointment as a powerful step towards gender equality and empowerment in the agency.

Dhiyana has 23 years of experience at the Maldives Customs Service. She most recently served as Deputy Chief Superintendent.

With her new appointment, she joins Deputy Commissioners of Customs Abdulla Waheed and Mahmood Riyaz.
