PG Shameem discharged after treatment; attack fractured arm

Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has been discharged from the ADK Hospital, where he sought treatment after getting attacked on a street in Male’ City.

Shameem was attacked with a weapon by two people on a motorbike on a road in Male’ City on Wednesday morning. He appears to have been out jogging when he was attacked.

Shameem posted on Facebook on Wednesday afternoon that he was back home with his family.

He said that he injured his left hand in the attack, and shared a picture of himself wearing a cast.

Shameem thanked everyone for the love and well wishes.

“…will be back at work stronger and be back running, cycling and swimming even faster,” said Shameem, a well-known fitness enthusiast.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has strengthened Shameem’s security in the wake of the attack.

Home Minister Ali Ihusan wrote on X that the police were treating the case as a top priority, and promised to bring the perpetrators to justice.

However, the police have yet to confirm an arrest in the case.
