The ‘Yageen Team’ of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that they will accept defeat if they lose in the party congress to be held on 17 January, and follow the winners.
The first congress of PPM will be held at Dharubaaruge from Thursday till Saturday. The competitors are in two groups, namely Umar Naseer’s campaign team and former President Gayoom’s brother, Mulaku MP Abdullah Yameen’s Yageen Team.
Speaking at a press conference held at Ma. Suraamanzil first floor to inaugurate Yageen Team’s campaign activities, PPM Spokesperson Galolhu-South MP Ahmed Mahloof said that PPM will hold debates between the contestants in line with the principles of democracy.
He said that this does not mean that party members become enemies, and assured that disagreements such as those between members of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) that led the party to break up, will not arise between members of PPM.
“This party has over 30,000 members. The party will always follow the decisions made by them. The major concern of our party members would be that we may end up like DRP. God willing, that won’t happen to us,” he said.
Team Umar has also commenced campaign activities. Yameen’s Yageen Team will hold its first campaign meeting tomorrow night at 20:30. The party has said that the team’s candidates will be introduced at tomorrow’s meeting, among other activities.
