President abolishes CCHDC

President Dr. Mohammed Waheed Hassan Manik has abolished the Centre for Community Health and Disease Control (CCHDC), and transferred its functions and responsibilities to the Health Protection Agency.

The President’s Office said that the CCHDC was abolished under the authority conferred upon the President by Article 116 of the Constitution.

CCHDC was abolished because its responsibilities and functions are the same as those of the Health Protection Agency under Section 6 of the Act on Protection of General Health, according to the President.

CCHDC has been working to identify diseases prevalent in the Maldives, and to prevent disease and increase health awareness.
