State Minister for Higher Education Mariyam Fizana Rasheed has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA).
The Higher Education Ministry congratulated Fizana on her appointment in a post on X, adding that Higher Education Minister Dr. Mariyam Mariya met with her and other MQA staff on Tuesday, “for discussions that actively engaged the staff, marking the commencement of this new chapter.”
Fizana has served top posts within the education sector, including as Director-General of MQA, and as Dean of Maldives National University (MNU)’s Faculty of Education.
Her younger brother, Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, is the Managing Director of Urbanco.
Fizana replaces Dr. Abdul Hannan as the CEO of MQA.
MQA was first created by a presidential decree in 2000, as the Maldives Accreditation Board (MAB). It was later renamed as the MQA in 2010.
MQA is mandated to ascertain the quality of post-secondary qualifications awarded in testimony of educational attainments, in compliance with the Maldives National Qualifications Framework (MNQF).
