Democrats parliamentary primary slated for February 17th

The Democrats has decided to hold its primary to elect the members who will contest the upcoming parliamentary election on the party’s ticket to February 17^th.

The decision was made during the first meeting of the party’s national assembly.

As per the party, to be eligible to contest in the primary, the individual must be included in the party’s register as of February 4^th and must meet all requirements a parliamentarian must meet as per the law.

In addition to this, members contesting the primary must submit their criminal and debt clearance form from the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) and criminal record clearance from Maldives Correctional Service along with their application.

Only members who are on the party’s register as of February 4^th can vote in the primary.

Opposition MDP and the government PPM-PNC coalition are also gearing up for their primaries.

In this regard, PPM-PNC coalition’s primary is slated for January 20^th while MDP’s primary is slated for January 26^th.

Meanwhile, the campaign of individuals contesting the parliamentary election on behalf of PNF – the new political party formed by former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom following his departure from the government coalition after disagreements – is well underway.
