Youth injured in second gang fight at Addu City being treated in ICU

Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) states the youth who was injured in the fight between two gangs in Addu City on Sunday evening is currently being treated at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Police, in a message to the media, said the fight between two gangs was reported to the authorities at 3:30pm on Sunday evening, adding it left a 20-year-old Maldivian man injured by a sharp object.

An official from the hospital said although the youth is being treated at ICU, he is in stable condition.

As per the official, he had sustained stab wounds to his stomach and shoulder.

Nevertheless, the official said efforts were underway to transport him to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for further treatment.

The incident comes after a gang fight in Addu City’s Hithadhoo district on Friday night left a 30-year-old Maldivian man seriously injured with stab wounds.

Four arrests have been made in connection to Friday’s fight; an 18-year-old, a 19-year-old, a 20-year-old and a 23-year-old.

A violent fight also broke out between two gangs in Male’ City last Wednesday.

Subsequently, Police have heightened security in both cities.
