President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef performed Maghrib prayer in congregation after taking oath of office this evening.
The new president and the vice president took oath during a special ceremony held at the Republic Square on Friday evening which was attended by thousands including delegations from foreign nations.
After the inauguration ceremony, the president and the vice president attended congregational prayer at the Islamic Centre for Maghrib.
The new administration’s Islamic Ministry Dr. Mohamed Shaheed Ali Saeed led the prayer as the Imam. Both the president and the vice president were spotted in the front row.
This marks a first in the history of Maldives as previously newly sworn-in presidents had headed to the President’s Office following their inauguration to appoint their cabinets.
The new government’s cabinet will be sworn-in at 7:45pm tonight, at the President’s Office.
A firework display is scheduled for 9:00pm tonight near Izzudheen Jetty to mark the beginning of the new administration.
