Former Islamic Ministry Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has resigned from his post as the president of Islamic Organization for Culture and Civilization (IOCC).
Shaheem announced his retirement at a function held on Monday night to launch the last book IOCC is set to release this year, ‘Islamee Nazariyyaathu’.
Shaheem’s resignation comes at a time when he has been rumored to be appointed to president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s cabinet as the Minister of Islamic Affairs.
However, the rumors have not been confirmed by any party in official capacity.
Shaheem was among the individuals who were at the forefront of Muizzu’s campaign.
Shaheem has served as the Minister of Islamic Affairs in two previous administrations; former president Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s administration and former president Abdull Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration.
He was also Yameen’s running mate when the former president contested for a second term in 2018’s election.
Shaheem, who has served as the chancellor and vice chancellor of the Islamic University of the Maldives, also held the post of IOCC’s advisor before becoming the president of the organization in October 2021.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Islamic Shariah and a PhD in Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences.
