1,000 from the general public to be permitted for Muizzu’s inauguration

The Office of the President-Elect states they are working on making arrangements for 1,000 members of the general public to be permitted inside the inauguration ceremony of the President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Parliament Secretariate has previously stated that members of the general public will not be permitted inside the ceremony for which they were preparing to send over 3,000 invitations. However, they have cited the possibility of arrangements being established to permit members of the general public inside the ceremony.

Commenting on the matter, Spokesperson of the Office of the President-Elect Firuzul Abdulla Khaleel said they were undertaking efforts to pave the way for members of the general public to attend the ceremony.

“We are working on paving the way to facilitate an open opportunity of 1,000 members of the general public to attend the inauguration ceremony. Our work will be shaped to achieve this,” he said.

Speaking further, Firuzul said MVR 17 million was incurred for the inauguration ceremony of the outgoing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Parliament has previously stated inauguration ceremony of president-elect Muizzu and vice president-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef would cost MVR 22.9 million, without a detailed account of the expenses.  

The inauguration will be held at Republic Square in Male’ City on November 17. Its arrangements have been contracted to Sifainge Welfare Company (SIWEC).

The arrangements for the inauguration are overseen by the Parliament under the advisement of the Director General of Transition Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

The transitional committee states that Muizzu wishes for members of the general public to be able to attend his inauguration.
