The area where an airport is being developed in F. Maagoodhoo has been removed from the jurisdiction of Magoodhoo Council after the declaration of the area as a separate industrial island.
The change was announced in a directive by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, issued in line with the executive powers bestowed to him by the law.
If a resort or an industrial island falls within the area under the jurisdiction of the local council, such an area will be omitted from their jurisdiction. Magoodhoo Airport area was removed from Magoodhoo Council’s jurisdiction in this trajectory.
Magoodhoo Airport project is valued at approximately MVR 232 million.
The government’s plan for Magoodhoo Airport includes an additional parking space to accommodate jets, a fuel farm for planes landing at the airport to refuel and a hotel for passengers and crew.
“This airport will be the most comprehensive airport from the regional airports in the Maldives,” President Solih had said with respect to Magoodhoo Airport previously.
MTCC was awarded the project in October last year, to be completed within 650 days.
The project involves building a 1,500-meter-long and 30-meter-wide runway, a passenger terminal, a control tower, a fire station, and installation of security equipment, supply and installation of navigational equipment, installation of MET equipment, and supply and installation of ground handling equipment.
