GA. Kanduhulhudhoo Council has announced plans to issue land from the island despite limited land availability in order to resolve housing issues.

Kanduhulhudhoo Council’s President Thoriq Afeef said non-issuance of land from the island has been noted as a prevalent concern of its residents. He stressed the limited land availability on the island as one of the biggest obstructions to this.

Thoriq, underscoring there are over 60 residents waiting on land as of present, said there was only the availability of 24 plots.

“Limited land availability is a huge issue. There are people who want land too. We want a land reclamation project to be implemented on this island as well,” he said.

Thoriq added that Kanduhulhudhoo was in need of a housing project for a permanent solution to its housing issues.

Speaking further, he said applications for land for residential purposes will open on Wednesday.

To be eligible, applicants must be 18 years of age and must not own a land, flat or row house measuring over 600 square feet at any Maldivian island.

The 24 plots of land that will be issued will measure 1,500 square feet and 2,000 square feet.
