Over 850 join traffic fine waiver program

Over 850 people have applied to join the training program conducted by the Transport Ministry which will offer the chance for cancellation of traffic fines.

During the presidential election campaign last month, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced the decision to waive all outstanding traffic fines between November 17, 2018 and September 5, 2023.

But the cancellation of fines is subject to the completion of a 20-hour training program on traffic rules.

State Minister for Transport Ali Solih told Sun on Thursday that the program is receiving a high number of applications.

Applications will remain open until October 25.

Solih said the 20-hour training program will be conducted over the course of a week.

“The program will last 20 hours. This means the 20 hours will be divided over the course of seven days,” he said.

The program will be conducted in collaboration with the police.
