The government has announced a risk allowance to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL)’s staff working on the apron of Velana International Airport (VIA).

Speaking at a campaign rally held in Male’ City on Tuesday night – President Solih stressed that staff working on the apron of an airport were subjected to a number of significant risks.

“Staff working on the airport’s apron work hand-in-hand with various risks, therefore, tonight, I provide them with the assurance that they will be awarded a risk allowance starting from October 1,” he said.

Noting that he had met a large number of people within the past days, President Solih said they included a number of airport workers, in different departments.

Citing the resumption of the issuance of half of their salaries in US dollars as an appeal made by such staff, the president said the request has been addressed as of present. He also underscored the shift of Air Traffic Control (ATC) to a subsidiary company, with a new salary framework with significant increments for ATC staff.
