The Waste Disposal Site Number 2 in Male’ has been closed again due to problems with the machinery used to empty the waste.
Male’ City Council Member Ibrahim Sujau said today that the site has been temporarily closed due to problems with the machinery.
He informed that the site is closed for disposing of large quantities of waste and that it remains open for smaller amounts of household waste, and that large quantities of waste can be disposed ofonto a barge located at the area used for obtaining driving licences.
“All our equipment has broken down, so we have decided that waste can be disposed of onto the barge. But small amounts of waste that can be carried by hand can still be disposed of to the Waste Site No. 2,” he said.
He said that work is under way to repair the equipment, and that it is likely that the problems will be solved and that the site reopened soon.
The waste disposal site filled up last month, and Ministry of Environment handed over the project to MTCC to have it cleared up within ten days. However by the time MTCC personnel went to the site to clear it up, the work had already been completed by theCity Council.
