Ibrahim Muaz Ali, who served as the spokesperson of the President’s Office during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration has signed for the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Muaz, announcing he joined MDP via post on social media platform X on Wednesday night, said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has showcased Maldives to the world as a country that has not been sidelined, by establishing peace and stability.
He pledged to undertake efforts to ensure President Solih re-election through a single round.
Before his appointment as the spokesperson of the President’s Office during Yameen’s administration, Muaz worked in the state media.
After Yameen’s administration ended, he joined Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD), which was spearheaded by Ahmed Adeeb who served as the vice president during Yameen’s administration. During his time in MTD, he held the post of deputy leader as well.
However, he has been absent from the political arena recently, ahead of joining MDP.
National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM)’s president Ismail Hameed (Highrise Isse) has also signed for MDP.
Isse said he joined MDP to partake in efforts to secure President Solih a second term.
He described the current president as a capable individual who works alongside individuals with differing ideologies instead of sidelining them.
