President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed confidence he will receive 130,000 votes to win the presidential elections slated for Saturday,

Speaking at a campaign rally held at R. Angolhitheemu on Tuesday – the president described Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s coalition with Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and Adhaalath Party as the biggest-ever coalition to contest the presidential election in the Maldives.

“As we face the election today, we have full guarantee of taking the election in one round. By the will of Almighty, we have guaranteed 130,000 votes, even considering that only 90 percent of the eligible voters cast their votes,” he said.

President Solih stressed that this was not a number opponent candidates could reach.

“With MDA and Adhaalath Party’s ideology being engrained within us, I believe the whole Maldives is with us,” he added.

Speaking further, the President said the scene he witnessed from each island he visited as part of his campaign tour, was the desire to move forward with development in place of political instability.

His pledges for Angolhitheemu if elected for a second term includes;

  • Addressing issues with the harbor
  • Developing a beach area
  • Laying asphalt on three major roads and developing the ring road
  • Developing a new office building for the council
  • A handball court

His pledges for Rasgetheemu, of the same constituency, include;

  • Modernizing the roads and laying asphalt on them
  • Improving the services of the health centre in addition to an extension building
  • A multipurpose hall
  • Facilitating docking boats outside of the harbor by expanding the channel
