President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says that a second term is crucial to the completion of his administration’s projects, warning that failure to get re-elected would result in a “severe backslide.”

In a campaign rally in Th. Madifushi on Monday, President Solih said that his administration started multiple projects across Maldives after coming to office in 2018, but that some of the projects got delayed due to various reasons.

“But I am happy that 90 percent of my pledges have been delivered, or are on the verge of deliverance. I believe this is a good achievement,” he said.

President Solih said that he will complete the projects, but that it requires him receiving a second term.

“But a pause in any of this will result in a severe backslide,” he said.

President Solih said that each of the projects are linked to each other.

ELECTORAL PLEDGES TO MADIFUSHI

  • Developing the roads of Madifushi with asphalt
  • Construction of housing units
  • Construction of 10 classrooms at the Madifushi school
  • Construction of a boatyard
  • Development of the health center
  • Linking Madifushi with Dhiyamigili

President Solih said that he faced major challenges when he contested the 2018 election. He said that the administration at the time had created a climate of fear in the Maldives, with any form of political dissent prohibited.

He said that many employees at state-owned enterprises such as Fenaka Corporation were dismissed over their political views.

He said that people from across the nation had risen against the administration, to end the cruelty and the fear.

“In Sha Allah, we began our work with the decision you made that day. In Sha Allah, we have certainly established stability across the country the last five years, compared to the previous years.”
