Faris: Political influence poses an obstacle to proper development

Independent candidate Faris Maumoon said there are various opportunities for development in Maldives, but it has not been adequately achieved because political influence is involved in major decisions related to the country.

Speaking in Ocean TV’s Table Talk programme last night, Faris said that the Maldivian state has many resources, with hardworking people, and a country with many doors open for foreign investments.

He also said that not all people today benefit from this wealth because political influence is involved in all decisions.

“The main reason for this is that all decisions are influenced by politics. Because no decision is taken regarding the country and the people without considering the political benefits of the decisions,” Faris said.

Faris further said the main philosophy he will propose to the people in the upcoming presidential election is to avoid political influence, and formulate merit-based and technical policies with the people.

In addition, Faris said that the government usually relies on the biggest businesses and the richest people for economic matters.

Highlighting that the government seems to prioritise those kinds of people instead of the general public, he said the wealth that the country gains would be distributed equally among the people under his government.

Faris has pledged to provide equal services to all people, including low-income people, in his government.
